This is Kentucky's annual tilt with an FCS school. Unfortunately, as we all know, Kentucky has been so impotent on offense that combined with the fact that Jacksonville St. is one of the best FCS teams in America, this game is a real threat for the Wildcats.

Despite that, Kentucky has had two weeks to lick their wounds, both physical and psychological, and with their bruises healed and a couple of weeks to recover and prepare, Kentucky fans have a right to expect the best out of them today. The reduced level of competition will help, and even though Jacksonville St. is a good team, they are no Florida, LSU, or South Carolina.

What I hope to see today:

  • Offense of some kind.
  • Continued good effort on defense.
  • A comfortable victory.

That's not much, I know, but it's about the best we can get. Jax St. is a dangerous team to this Wildcats group, and a loss here would likely break the spirit of the team as well as the fans and coaching staff. Winning this gains UK no credit, but spares them a ton of painful taunts and fan outrage.

But I expect Kentucky to come out and play well today, comparatively, and if they do, that will provide some hope that the season can be turned around -- at least a little bit. All I really want out of today, though, pretty or ugly, is to have more points on the board than the other team when time expires.

Go, 'Cats!
