Joe Hall Brings UK Recruiting Into 20th Century In 1966

In 1966, teams didn't even scout recruits until their senior year. Most players signed in late spring or over the summer. UK never signed 2 players from the same school (Rupp picked the better player in his eyes). UK recruiting had floundered in the 1960's but Hall came back to UK in 1965 and set out to sign a full class of excellent recruits. And he did:

F Randy Pool 6-7 Oak Ridge TN > Mr. B-ball, booted from team in 1970 along with Bob McCowan

F Travis Butler 6-6 Rogersville AL Lauderdale County > never played varsity, flunked out as frosh

F Mike Pratt 6-4 Dayton OH Meadowdale > All-State, chose UK over Dayton and Cincy

G Mike Casey 6-4 < RS as Sr due to injury > Shelby County KY > HS A-A, Mr B-ball

G Bill Busey 5-10 Shelby County KY > left UK varsity in senior year

F Clint Wheeler 6-7 < RS as Soph > Ashland KY Blazer

G Benny Spears 6-2 Ashland KY Blazer > left UK varsity in soph year

G Terry Mills 6-2 < RS as Soph > Knox Central KY > All-State

G Jim Dinwiddie 6-3 < RS as Soph > Leitchfield KY > All-State
