Basketball season is over. The new season begins today. It never ends at Kentucky.

LEX18 | Cal Has No Interest In NBA
"Now, they'll throw in my name at the NBA, and I have no interest. But there is no way they can come back and say, He wants this job, that job."
Great. Nice to hear. Not surprising, but nice to hear.

One-and-done stars not best for Kentucky | cincinnati.com | Cincinnati.Com
So, while Cal will likely reload that doesn't mean it will be a path to an NCAA title or even to the type of season the Cats just had. One thing I will credit both Cal and the players for this past season is the chemistry they showed.
You know, I think referring to college kids repeatedly as "mercenaries" is somehow wrong. Yeah, I get the analogy, and it's valid, and I'm not even disputing the author's point -- he has one, and it is reasonable.
I think Calipari should recruit the best players for his system, and if that means that we have a number of one and done players, then we do. Obviously, the argument that one and done players don't win championships is historically defensible to some degree, but to what degree is still unclear. Even veteran teams who should win lose before the Final Four (I'm looking at you, Kansas). So drawing that conclusion is more likely a fallacy than a logical argument -- there just haven't been that many teams that looked like Kentucky did this year.
More after the jump.

UK's Evans, Matthews expect 'leap' year | KentuckySports.com
Junior-college prospects typically make a huge jump between their first and second years on campus. Matthews and Evans are counting out on it.
"If I did what I did last year basically off two months of getting ready for the season, I feel like the sky's the limit now," Evans said. "I feel like I've got to come out here and dominate."
We saw this with Steve Johnson and others as well. If Evans and Matthews manage the same level of improvement, it could really impact the Wildcats' chances for success on the gridiron this year.

"Getting all the same questions about the recruiting stuff, it just gets tiring," Lamb said. "It's the same questions over and over again. I'm just ready to move on."
I don't blame him. All I ever hear are the same questions over and over. The press coverage of these high school kids is ridiculous.

Kentucky Sports Radio " Blog Archive " Was this not a happy team?
NBA execs and agents say Calipari battled infighting among parents of upperclassmen and underclassmen over playing time, publicity, etc.
This dovetails nicely with some of the things that Calipari said to the media about issues "surrounding the team."
I'll chalk up a lot of that to the ridiculous hype surrounding Calipari's first year here, the profile of the team players, and the almost surreal media feeding frenzy that has been a part of this team since Calipari took the job. I think next year, things will calm down considerably by comparison. Hopefully, Calipari will make sure that the parents of next year's recruits understand their place is to support their son, not negotiate playing time with the coach.
This parent thing is a very disturbing trend that needs to be addressed.

"It won't be like that (every year)," Calipari said. "Part of it was that the team was so good this year it elevated every player. If we were a bad team, they would have looked bad as individual players.
This is exactly right. Remember all those North Carolina guys that won the championship in when they were freshmen? Several were thought to be possible "one and done" when they came, but they were so bad as a team, the NBA wasn't interested.
On the other hand, if they had made an Elite Eight run, I suspect several would have gone.

Wildcats Thunder Blog: Is DDMO real or just a marketing/recruiting tool?
I am beginning to wonder if the Dribble Drive Motion Offense (DDMO) is a real team offense or just a way to recruit top players and then allow them to work their talent, individually, on the floor to beat their man on offense.
Heh. We talked about this earlier this year. At this point, we have seen very little of the DDM, and depending on who comes back, we might not see it much next year, either.

Another Calipari team loses in NCAAs because of its obvious flaws | College Hoops Journal
Unfair as it may be, John Calipari’s name officially was thrown into the he-can’t-win-it-all conversation with this loss. It’s the burden that comes with being so prominent on the national level. With recruiting such ridiculous talent. An Elite Eight run in his first year is an accomplishment may Kentucky fans are satisfied with. They won’t be for long, though, even though most of the youngins from this year class will be bolting in less than two months.
Matt's right, this will happen. I don't worry about it, and I don't think Kentucky fans will be sweating it for at least a couple more years. But this meme could come back to bite Calipari, especially if Kentucky teams continue to struggle from the line in big games.

Eamonn Brennan: Top 10 storylines for offseason - ESPN
Recruits choose their futures. Most of the top recruits in the Class of 2010 are signed, sealed and delivered. But there are a handful of top players that have yet to pick a college, several of whom seem likely to end up at Kentucky. Four of the top 13 recruits in the ESPNU 100 (and eight of the top 30) are still available
I sure hope so.

Final thought: Butler's rise to national prominence over the past three weeks has people wondering if the Bulldogs have changed (or will change) college basketball. If you're one of those people, please, stop wondering. It's a clichéd idea, cheap storyline, and, most notably, utterly ridiculous.
