After a fairly easy time in the bayou with the LSU Tigers last Saturday, the Wildcats welcome a much tougher opponent into their den, an opponent that is smarting from two one-point losses and a three game losing streak.
More after the jump.
What UK needs to do to win:
- Alabama is a poor defensive rebounding team, so the Wildcats must take advantage and hit the offensive glass hard.
- Alabama has a tendency to foul under pressure, so UK needs to make their free throws.
- Take the ball hard to the basket. Alabama may zone, but they won't at first.
- Avoid cheap fouls to important players.
What Kentucky must avoid:
- Giving the Tide open looks at three.
- Letting the pressure defense of Alabama get to them.
- Allowing Alabama to get offensive rebounds.
Giving up live ball turnovers.
Alabama may not look that strong, but they are more capable than they have shown, and they have several outrageous athletes on this team that can occasionally go off. UK must continue to do what has worked so well for them, play fast but not in a hurry.
Taking care of the defensive boards is key, because Alabama has not done a good job of that all year, and Kentucky's offensive rebounding has become legendary. UK doesn't need to give them a chance to minimize that advantage. Alabama will also foul a lot in their pressure, so making free throws is critical in this game.
