The Big Blue Daily Mail -- Overtime in Starkville Edition

In case you missed it watching the Olympics or something, there was a big game between the Mississippi St. Bulldogs and the Kentucky Wildcats last night, and oh, what fun it was.

  UK's DeMarcus Cousins took the taunting texts and phone calls he said he got in the days leading up to the game in style. He reacted well on the court, too, scoring 19 points. He said, though, that he'll change his phone number when he gets back to Lexington.
  
  Cousins did react well, a good sign for the young player.

  An announced Humphrey Coliseum record crowd of 10,788 watched as the Bulldogs fought every step with the vaunted Wildcats, even when many factors indicated that they shouldn't have.
  
  Indeed. The fans may have been over the top, but the team had nothing but guts.

  "They should have won the game," said John Calipari, the Kentucky coach. "We just kind of reached out and grabbed one, I don't know how."
  
  I know how -- these kids just don't know how to fail. I continue to be impressed by their remarkable determination.
  
  One day, maybe, this UK team will lose one of these, maybe even a big one. But the fact that they have won not less than three or four of these types of games this year speaks volumes about their determination. They may not win them all, but they have won the vast majority, and I think that's all you can ask.

  And then their fans – some of whom are the nastiest and most vulgar I’ve heard in 19 years of covering SEC basketball – embarrassed the school by throwing bottles on the floor.
  
  Wow, strong words. All I know is that Cousins said they made a few racist comments on his phone, and a few of them threw debris on the court.
