Kentucky closes out their four-game home stand with the Eagles tonight, as the Wildcats prepare for an away game on Friday against arch-rival and hated foe, the Louisville Cardinals. It is certainly possible that the Wildcats will be overlooking Coppin St. tonight, and that is always a reason for some concern. A disrespected opponent is a dangerous opponent.

The good news is that despite giving Connecticut a bit of trouble, the Eagles simply don't have the firepower to handle a Kentucky team that scores from almost every spot on the floor, and who's defense is really starting to assert itself. Of course, that assumes the Wildcats come to play, and not just play around. Coppin St. is approximately the same kind of team that the Mississippi Valley St. Delta Devils are -- they can make you look bad winning by 20.

What I hope to see:

  • Better all around play out of Terrence Jones, and a lot more emotion.
  • More aggressive defense from Brandon Knight, particularly guarding the dribble.
  • I wouldn't mind continued hot shooting from Doron Lamb.
  • Continued good rebounding from Josh Harrellson.
  • Leadership from the point guard position.

Here's what I hope Kentucky avoids:

  • Turnovers. UK is one of the best ballhandling teams in the country -- #6, in fact. I'd like to see that continue.
  • Quick shots. If the early offense is not there, don't jack up a quick three. Move the ball side to side, or on the dribble drive, and get a good look.
  • A Christmas hangover.
  • Ignoring the work in front of them, and disrespecting their opponent.
  • Poor communication, a bad habit that is only now starting to improve.

Coppin St. is another team that Kentucky should be able to handle with margin to spare. Let's do the work.
