Bloggers and even journalists are always playing, "Conference Wars," debating who is the strongest conference and why. It really is kind of meaningless, but it is good fun and adds to the fun of college football season. It is only the first week of the season, but I thought it would be fun to look at how the FBS conferences fared last week.
This chart is broken down into two sections -- versus FBS teams and versus non-FBS teams (i.e. FCS, Division II, III, etc.). Note that this chart only considers inter-conference games. I have added a few remarks in there at the end, just for fun:
FBS | Other | |||||||||
Conference | Won | Lost | % | FBS Games | Won | Lost | % | Other games | Total Games | Remarks |
Pac-10 | 4 | 1 | .800 | 5 | 1 | 0 | 1.000 | 1 | 6 | Strong |
Big 12 | 7 | 2 | .778 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 12 | Strong |
SEC | 7 | 2 | .778 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 12 | Strong |
Mountain West | 3 | 1 | .750 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 0.667 | 3 | 7 | A loss to FCS. |
Big 10 | 4 | 3 | .571 | 7 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 10
Conference USA | 2 | 2 | .500 | 4 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 7
WAC | 2 | 3 | .400 | 5 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 8 | |
ACC | 2 | 4 | .333 | 6 | 5 | 0 | 1.000 | 5 | 11 | Heh. |
Mid-American | 3 | 6 | .333 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 1.000 | 3 | 12
Sun Belt | 1 | 5 | .167 | 6 | 0 | 6 | ||||
FBS Independents | 0 | 2 | .000 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1.000 | 1 | 3
Big East | 0 | 4 | .000 | 4 | 4 | 0 | 1.000 | 4 | 8 | Yikes. |
Note: Games don't always add up because some teams played conference foes. |
Your comments are welcome, as always.
How I managed to omit the Big Televen in my original post, I don't know. I'm going to have to admonish the quality control department.
