Despite taking a 1-run lead into the bottom of the 9th, the Ole Miss Rebels win their second game in the last week against the UK Baseball team with a walk-off 2-run homer by the Rebels' Michael Gurrero. This was just a nip and tuck contest all the way that Ole Miss just got the better of. Relief pitcher Scott Green just gave Gurrero the pitch he was looking for, and he sent it out of the park just inside the left field foul pole.
Kentucky now faces Alabama again in the double-elimination tournament. Theoretically, they still have a chance to win it, but the odds just went down quite a bit.
Our own String Music live-blogged much of the game in the wee hours of this morning, and he was not alone -- at least one other person was on at that time to lament a tough loss with one out and one on in the 9th inning after Gurrero's 2-run blast.
This loss dealt a blow to Kentucky's hopes of hosting an NCAA regional, but if UK were to beat Alabama and go deep into the tourney, they may yet have a shot. But first, we have to overcome the home team one more time, tonight at 7:30 (approx). The loser goes home until the NCAAs.
