Florida at Kentucky -- Statistical Comparison

New, comments

Here is the statistical comparison between Kentucky and Florida.

This is a tale of two different sorts of teams.  Kentucky is a great defensive team, and Florida is a great offensive team.  It is the proverbial immovable object versus the unstoppable force.  Florida's young stars against Kentucky's two dynamic seniors.  Yang and Yin.  Twin sons of different mothers.

Since the last time these two teams met in the O-dome, these two teams have gone in two different directions, Kentucky 10-2, and Florida has gone 5-6.  Kentucky has been toughing out close games against seemingly every foe, and Florida has struggled to beat anyone on the road.  But Florida did give Tennessee a scare down in Gainesville earlier this week, so it is a more confident Gator team that comes into Rupp tomorrow for Senior Day.

Statistically, these teams are opposites, but one thing that must give Kentucky pause are turnovers.  Kentucky has significantly improved their turnovers since the early SEC season and the out of conference schedule, but they are still well behind the Gators in that area.  The Gators, who were one of the better three-point shooting teams earlier in the year have begun to go the other way, and UK has a significant lead in conference.  Billy Gillispie has to find a way to convince the Wildcats to play the pick and roll much better than the Cats did down in Gainesville, where the Gators were devastating and, even though it was an overtime victory, the Cats were very lucky to force overtime and got pretty much handled in the extra session.

I'll have a more in-depth look at the game in my adversary analysis.  For more on the Florida Gators, you can take a visit to our SBNation brothers at Alligator Army, or our friends at Orange and Blue Hue.

Thanks again to Statsheet.com and Basketball State for the statistical data.
