OPEN GAME THREAD: Florida Atlantic at Kentucky

Here we go, Wildcat fans!  Kentucky hosts Florida Atlantic University and Howard Schnellenberger for the opportunity to got to 5-0 and improve their number 14 national rank.

It goes without saying that so far, this has been a special season for the Wildcats, and especially so for the long-suffering Wildcat faithful who, despite Kentucky's irrelevance over the last several years, continued to attend games and invaded Nashville last year to the tune of 50,000 plus for the Music City Bowl versus the Clemson Tigers.

A victory today would place the Wildcats within 1 game of bowl eligibility.  It also puts Kentucky in a totally unaccustomed position -- the outside chance at being a participant in a BCS bowl.  Obviously, given our schedule, this doesn't look that likely right now, but if Kentucky plays well today, they will be taking a ton of confidence to South Carolina next week, and an opportunity to go 2-0 in the SEC with two road wins, and a legitimate claim to a top-10 ranking.

Even if it all falls apart after this, I don't think there is a Big Blue fan out there who hasn't enjoyed this ride so far.  Beating our most bitter rival and a pretty good SEC team back-to-back has temporarily raised the consciousness of Kentucky vis a vis football, and provided much more excitement than we are used to at this time of year.  As tickets for Big Blue Madness went on sale today, I think it's safe to say that the Big Blue Nation is as flush with sports excitement as at any time in my lifetime.

This is the official Kentucky vs. FAU open thread.  Post your thoughts, if you have any, and enjoy the game!

GO CATS!
