Tennessee at Kentucky: Open Game Thread

This is the official A Sea of Blue open game thread for the Tennessee at Kentucky game.

What does this game mean to UK fans?  22 years of futility -- two decades, 4 presidents, two Popes.  AT&T was still intact the last time UK won.  Carmello Anthony was born the year we last won, as was J.J. Redick, Raymond Felton, LaBron James, and Adam Morrison.  Harry, Prince of Wales was born that year.  It was a long time ago.

This is, to me, one of the biggest games of the year.  It is a game in which we can write "finis" to a generation of Volunteer domination.  This game is, as I said to Joel at Rock Top Talk, Everest.  K2.  Mars.  Huge.

Kentucky has a chance to break the longest current winning streak in the nation today.  It's time to bring it to an end.

Tru's key's to the game:

  • Run the football -- When we gain 100 yards or more on the ground, we are 7-1
  • Control Foster and Hardesty -- Was our improved defense last week an illusion, or a trend?
  • Woodson must shine -- André Woodson is the leader of this offense.  Without him, we will fall.  He must return to form.
  • Dominate special teams -- Special teams cost us the game last week, particularly our punting game.

This is our best chance in 22 years.  We are roughly the Vols' equal.  If not now, when?

Go, Cats!
