This is the official A Sea of Blue open game thread for the Florida at Kentucky game.
This is a huge day for Kentucky football, perhaps even bigger than the game against LSU last weekend. We have not beaten the Florida Gators in 20 years, and this would be a big, big win should the Cats be able to pull it off.
Also, we all know that ESPN College Gameday is in Lexington this weekend -- Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and of course, former Louisville football coach Lee Corso are in the Bluegrass. If you are going to the game, try to get there early and make some noise for the ESPN guys. Of course, Gameday is nothing new for the UK basketball team, but this is the football team's first taste -- I know Cat fans will make it special.
If you have mobile technology, you can email me from the game and give observations/comments, and I'll get them up as quickly as I can. You can find my email in the left sidebar. This is a big day of college football, and we need to enjoy it as much as possible. This is the most excitement about college football I can ever remember in the Bluegrass, and these days are far too rare not to enjoy it every bit. If you will be consuming adult beverages today, please don't drive and enjoy the party safely. I want all my members back tomorrow to help me continue our celebration, or lament what could have been.
So let's get ready for some FOOTBAAAAALLLL, ladies and gents!
Tru's key's to the game:
- Run the football -- we must be able to run the football to protect Woodson. If they stop our running game, the will send lots of nasty blitzes and Woodson will be knocked all over the place.
- Turn up the decibels -- Our fans have been the 12th man on the field all year. This is a chance to knock off a team that has taken us for granted 20 out of the last 20 times. Let's show them the passion that the Big Blue Nation brings to games, and why we are the best fans in all of collegiate sports.
- Contain Tebow -- Tebow is going to get yardage. We have to try to keep him from dominating our defense, because the way Florida plays, they could keep our defense on the field for an extended period of time. That is bad, and can wear us down.
- Stay close in the first half -- Kentucky is dominating teams in the second half, but we need to keep it within two scores with the Gators.
Enjoy this day, Kentucky fans. Win or lose, we must live in the moment and show the college football world (and especially ourselves) that we handle success as well as we handled irrelevance. Enjoy the game, I'll have more comments after it's over. I won't be live blogging, but I will be popping in here from time to time, so post your thoughts if you have 'em and are so inclined.
