Catching up on some Kentucky tidbits from around the globe (sort of ... ):
- Congratulations to UK freshman Jodie Meeks. The 6'5" Georgia native was named the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office, announced Monday. Meeks -- who had 16 points in a big win over Tennessee on Sunday -- sure has the look of a Tubby Smith favorite, and in my opinion could be to the guard position what Chuck Hayes was to the forward spot. You read it here first.
- Kentucky senior Randolph Morris' strong early play has him on the midseason 30-man list of Wooden Award candidates. The Wooden is given to the nation's top player. No UK player made the preseason compilation, so kudos to Big Randy for the recognition. A 10-player All-American team will be named from this list on March 27, with the Player of the Year unveiled April 7.
- Cherry-picking a Tubby quote from the SEC coaches' teleconference: "It gives you more time to break down our team and correct some things we need to correct, maybe change a few things, look at people in positions we have not had a chance to evaluate like we should." Hmmm ...
- After a strong finish to an 8-5 season, including a win in the Music City Bowl, Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks made official today his four-year contract extension.
