It's game day, folks. You know what that means -- sweaty palms, blue skies and a little pregame nip or two, eh?
Today at 6 PM ET, the Wildcats try to right the ship against the Division I-AA Texas State Bobcats (1-0) at Commonwealth Stadium.
Texas State will present a very different challenge than No. 13 Louisville did last week. They run a spread option offense and their run/pass ratio is -- over the last few years -- quite balanced. They also feature 19 transfers from Division I-A schools, including running back Daniel Jolly (Colorado).
So lest you believe that this is a cupcake game, remember that Texas State gave Texas A&M a whale of a game last season and has a recent history of upsets.
Couple that with Kentucky breaking in a slew of new starters, most notably stud frosh Micah Johnson at linebacker, and there is a certain ripeness to the game.
The most important thing for UK is to shake off the doldrums that plagued the Louisville fiasco. Kentucky cannot come out flat again, or it will be a long game, win or lose. it will also be key to see the offense keep the Texas State defense off-balance. Joker Phillips' crew was predictable and ineffective in the first 20 minutes last Sunday, and can ill afford to give TSU free chances to score.
All in all, this week is telling (aren't they all?). A Kentucky struggle or loss and the season becomes a death march. A confidence-boosting win and the Louisville loss fades much more quickly.
Which do you think will occur?
