BREAKING: A new name in the mix?

Call it a roundabout effort, but while scouring the web, I came across a Kentucky recruiting target I hadn't yet seen.

Lavoy Allen, a 6'8" center/power forward in the 2007 class from Pennsbury (PA.) High School near Philly, apparently got a visit from Tubby Smith this Friday.

Allen looks to have offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rutgers and Temple and looks to be a big Rutgers target. According to Scout, he has interest in the Cats, though these lists are notoriously out-of-date. A summer AAU roundup had this to say about Allen's game:

Lavoy Allen of Team Philly isn't a sexy prospect. He doesn't sprint up and down the floor and he doesn't fly above the rim but what he does do well is rebound, score inside and uses his big 6-foot-9, 230-pound body well. There is a good college player inside of him. He muscled people around for 23 points and 12 rebounds in a blow out win on Sunday afternoon. Allen is one of the more under appreciated big men in his class. He deserves a little ink for his strong Sunday play.

How did I find this? Via this local Pennsylvania column, ostensibly on Eagles head coach Andy Reid, which takes the "Fire Tubby" crew to task for what he perceives as irrational expectations.

Allen apparently averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds a game as a Junior. He has physical tools, needs polish, but appears to be a hard worker and -- in a twist -- a rebounding force.
