Armed with a #26 ranking from Baseball News, Kentucky ripped off another series of impressive wins this weekend, downing #12 Tennessee twice in three games for a series win -- its second over a ranked SEC team in two weeks. This off continuing its stellar start to the season with a 13-3 win over Xavier midweek.

The win puts the Cats at 18-4, matching the best start in the school's 102-year baseball history.

The win marks a number of firsts for UK. The team won an SEC road series for the first time in more than two years while winning back-to-back SEC series' for the first time since 2003. Both series wins have been over top 15 teams as Kentucky took down No. 8 LSU last week. The Wildcats also won a Sunday SEC game for just the second time in John Cohen's tenure.

Outstanding.

The ranking puts Kentucky on the cusp of the top 25, rare territory for the Bat Cats. How tough is the SEC as a baseball conference?

The Baseball News poll puts 7 SEC teams before UK (at 26). That means 8 of the league's 12 teams are considered among the top 26 teams in the country. Tough, indeed! Congrats John Cohen and the Bat Cats ... keep rolling.

Update [2006-3-28 13:22:55 by JL Blue]: This week's college baseball polls show Kentucky's rapid rise nationally ... with a #20 spot from Baseball America, a #21 ranking from Collegiate Baseball, and a spot standing just outside the top 25 from USA Today.
