GAMETIME: Kentucky (20) vs. UCLA (5)

New, comments

The Wildcats get their first true national test tonight in a 9:30 pm ET tilt with the UCLA Bruins in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.

UK raced past Depaul in its tourney opener yesterday, 87-81, scoring more points in the win than in any games since spring 2005. There was a noticeable lack of defense from the Cats, but Tubby Smith didn't seem terribly worried, focusing isntead on the outstanding (and rare) offensive production from his boys.

UCLA pummeled host Chaminade early Tuesday ET, and brings the experience of a title game finish to last season. While missing a few starters (3 from last year's team are in hte NBA now), there is length and talent to go around, led by guard Aaron Afflalo and big man Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.

What to look for:
The Cats hope to continue their surprising uptempo surge on offense while getting better interior defense than they did against Depaul. Randolph Morris is averaging over 9 rebounds a game, and that sort of production is exactly what the Cats need from the big man. The bench played key minutes against the Blue Demons, and will be asked for more quality floor time in the second of three straight games.
