It's easy once basketball season is in full swing to forget that the University has several other marquee sports going on (excluding football).
Here's a look at a few goings on:
- The No. 14 Kentucky men's soccer team has had an outstanding year -- one of its best in years -- and capped its regular season with a 3-1 victory over Memphis. Remember that in soccer, UK (12-4-2) is in the C-USA, which may sound funny/lame, but nationally top-ranked SMU is the #1 school in the conference ... and UK is #2. Not bad, eh? Next up: C-USA conference tournament on Wednesday at Tulsa, Okla. The Cats are the No. 2 seed.
- The baseball Cats are coming off a landmark SEC reular-season title, and as is its annual tradition, the baseball team took the field for the UK Fall World Series over the past week, with the Black squad and Blue squad each taking a game. Among the standout performances were clutch RBIs from Anthony Ottrando and Marcus Nidiffer, a pair of hits and steals by Keenan Wiley and stellar pitching from veteran reliever Greg Dombrowskia dn touted freshmen Colby Brown (Mt. Vernon, KY) and Clint Tilford (Paducah, KY).
