Guess who had been racking up verbal commitments from youngsters? That's right, Tubby's successor at Kentucky Billy Gillispie. According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Tubby and Gillispie talked privately before the decision was leveled. Publicly Gillispie, or the Coaching Pedophile as some are calling him, is saying he doesn't feel singled out. Gillispie has to say that, but you have to believe that somewhere, even if Tubby won't talk about it at parties, he took some joy in being the coaching fraternity's elder statesman and watching as his actions put Gillispie in a negative light.

I don't get it. Why would painting Gillispie in a negative light be something Smith would want to do, or take joy in? It isn't as though he and Coach Gillispie were competing for the UK job -- Smith left, and UK eventually hired Gillispie. Is he saying that Smith is so spiteful that he is happy to condemn the new UK coach, whoever it is? I doubt that.
Normally, PJS does a good job of commenting on the Smith/Kentucky relationship, but this is one of his worst efforts. There is no reason for Smith to want to stick it to Gillispie, much less enjoy doing it. PJS could have done much better with this.
