"I say this very humbly, and I mean it," Pitino said. "There's not a doubt in my mind that I would not have won a championship with that basketball team. I didn't think it was a championship-caliber team."

Pitino again benchmark for Tubby's team | courier-journal | The Courier-Journal Wow. I have said it. Others have said it. Now Pitino has said it. But too many UK fans find it easy not to believe it.

Curry madness takes over CBS' TV schedule? - Beyond the Arc - msnbc.com

Mike Miller wonders if the Cult of Stephen Curry has taken over CBS. This Curry infatuation by the network looks for all the world like Pete Maravich II. I remember when they stopped my grade school in Tennessee (!) at the end of one day just so the whole school could watch Pistol Pete play on closed-circuit TV (this was just before I moved to Kentucky) shortly after CCTV had been introduced as an educational tool in schools. I believe this happened just before they let out school for the Christmas break, and the game was played around 2:00 in the afternoon. I figure it was either the UCLA game in 1969 or vs. Georgia in 1970. It seems like Maravich was constantly on TV when he was at LSU. Looks to me like Curry will be the same way.

Nick Calathes engages in illegal online gambling, but does "... nothing wrong."

Nick Calathes, guard for the Florida Gators, may not have broken any laws or violated NCAA rules, but his admitted online gambling activities were wrong and unethical. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson.

The new 3-point line: Big deal or not?

For once, Andrew Skwara and Bob McClellan of Rivals.com have a fairly interesting debate over how the new 20'9" 3-point line will affect college basketball.  One foot doesn't seem like much of a...

Can you imagine what would have happened in the Big Blue Nation if Louisville had gotten the nod here? Ugly.

Who Will Benefit From the Longer 3-point Line in 08-09?

Our good friends at Rush the Court have done a very interesting and worthwhile analysis of the new 3-point line, and who might be the most affected by it. I think that teams who shoot a lot of 3-pointers will be the most negatively affected, generally speaking. The first two or three years, I see the 3-point percentage in the NCAA as a whole dropping around 3 points, and some teams will suffer more than others. As for UK, I think we will simply shoot fewer 3's than in recent years. We have so many options inside, and so many slashers, that taking the ball to the hoop will be the main method of scoring next year. Meeks will get his shots out there, as will Porter, and I expect most of them to be spot-up shots. Spot-up shooting is going to be the least affected by the line, in my opinion.
