A Tribute to Mr. Wildcat
If only we knew,
we would have said goodbye.
After all you've done,
you've left us with no eyes that are dry.
For forty-eight years you witnessed,
your Wildcats fighting their way,
to both wins and losses,
but mostly, UK ruled the day.
Your seat next to Billy,
should be left empty,
missing you, we will all be guilty.
The dedication you displayed,
is admirable for sure,
from Adolph to Joe to Eddie to Rick,
to Tubby and Billy, you had to endure.
Big men all, receiving the attention,
but you just went to work,
not wanting any mention.
You did what you could to help the teams win,
offering an ear, or advice,
to all the young men.
Your love and spirit, helping the crew,
tough times and good,
you are True Blue,
allll the way through.
"KEIGHTLEY" hangs from Rupp's high rafters,
it's the honor given,
to Kentucky's biggest backer.
For decades you loved and cheered our team,
never giving up,
never giving up on the dream.
Three Titles, and countless Final Fours,
what a memorable ride, that's for sure,
the record for Most Victories for an Equipment Manager...is surely yours:)
More than that though, you diligently showed,
you are Mr. Wildcat,
forever, with a seat on the front row.
Next to Coach Clyde you will sit,
ensuring no technicals he will get.
We sum it all up with these words from our heart,
Mr. Wildcat you done good,
from Big Blue Nation, you can never be torn apart.
So, say hi to Cawood and Beard, Spivey and Rupp,
they'll all be drinking from Gods Big Blue cup.
I'll remember you this way, in my memory file,
after each win, your sweet victory smile.
"Those who earn it, get it" is the mantra of Billy G,
Mr. Keightley you earned it,
our admiration and respect is owed to thee.
For death cannot silence your dedication,
you will forever remain, the biggest Wildcat fan in the Nation.
