The Poll
Uf football and basketball will be very poor this year and I can't wait to watch it unfold.

i don't agree Catfan the Gators are still good....
Now I do think that Florida will lose at least one game in football, but that's only because of the brutal SEC. They are still darn good.
And I even think we are underrating them at basketball too. I think they could shock some folks this year too. Yes they lost all their starters but Billy D has put together some good young talent down there. I actually thought at first they'd have to settle for an NIT bid but i read some sports sites and I think they still could make it to the sweet 16 if things work out just right for them.
I think the great Gator teams are here to stay - at least for another generation....

The Gators ...
But Florida will be tough, and so will LSU and Tennessee. Auburn and Georgia will be better this year as well, at least on paper.
I'd be surprised if any team made it through the gauntlet of the SEC unscathed this year.

Prognostications
I give much of the credit for UF's success to Meyer. He seems to have an innate sense of when to make adjustments, both offensively and defensively. He doesn't react, he simply does. And more often than not, what he "does" is sucessful.
I agree with Tru on his evaluation of UGA, Auburn, UT, and LSU. Don't forget, UGA did not lose after the UK game last year. Stafford proved to be the answer Richt was searching for at QB.
LSU, defensively, is as dominate as any SEC team in recent memory. They need not fret over losing Russell. If you don't give up any points, you don't need to score many to win.
South Carolina is another team that should be better.
Without a doubt, it should be a very competitive year as usual.

You don't know that.

Catfan's still at it...
In the modern SEC, a 2-loss season for my Gators would never surprise me. There might be a small level of disappointment if the team is good enough and the schedule is conducive to a one or zero loss season. We all know how hard a one-loss season is to achieve even if your team is lights-out good.
My disappointment level starts with three losses. In Meyer's first year the Gators lost three which was an improvement over Zook's horrible three-year 7-5 (EVERY year!) stretch. The equivalent that you might understand, Catfan, is if Kentucky failed to win 20 games for the three consecutive years and also never made the NCAA tourney. That is how horrible a 7-5 year is viewed by Gator fans. Although Ron Zook is a fine person and a good recruiter, Gator Nation rejoiced when he departed Gainesville. Those were dark times for us.
Anyway, as I was saying, Meyer lost three in his first year. One of them was to South Carolina, which really hurt, especially since we should have won that game on talent alone. Another was to LSU -- our offense was so out of sync that despite being +5 in turnover margin we still lost by a small amount. In my view both of those games were winnable but Meyer had not yet changed the consititution of our team from the Zook mentality of being apologetic, excuse-making losers. Of course we were also ambushed by Alabama, 31-3, in Tuscaloosa, and I think that game was destined to be an L no matter what Meyer did.
Overall, it was a good first year. We beat all of our rivals (UT, FSU, Georgia) and were a gnat's hair away from going to the SEC CG.
In 2006, Meyer obviously turned on the afterburners. No one, and I mean no one, thought the Gators would make it to Glendale. Once they got there, I predicted a one-TD victory over the then-vaunted Buckeyes. Instead we smashed them 41-14.
Meyer has built a tough team with a championship mentality.
We lost a lot of defensive starters. What not a lot of people seem to remember is that we lost a ton of starters in 2005, also. Almost our entire offensive line was a question mark, untested and inexperienced in 2006.
We had tons of questions in our secondary. We had a starting CB who transfered from Utah, where he was sitting 3rd string! Our secondary coaching staff turned him into an All-SEC player with 2nd-team All-American honors. He went from thinking about a career in business to getting drafted in the NFL in one year. Opposite him we had Reggie Lewis, who had never been more than a barely adequate CB under Ron Zook, and was turned into a very, very good player by Meyer.
Also don't forget our defensive line, widely considered to be the best in America last year. Do you remember that the best player on that line -- the best player in our entire defense -- maybe the best player on the team, Marcus Thomas -- was kicked off the squad mid-season? We lost our best defensive player and guys who had done squat before (Steven Harris, Jarvis Moss) stepped up and became champions. Moss became a first round draft pick.
The bottom line: we have the best coaches in America working with these guys. They may make some mistakes early, but they will be a top-flight unit after a couple of SEC games are under their belts.
A five-loss season will not happen -- you can bank on it.
And if you call last year's championship a paper championship, in which the Gators were heavy underdogs and went ahead and destroyed the (fearsome! awesome! oh my!) Buckeyes, resulting in a BCS title and a unanimous #1 ranking by every poll out there, I'll take one every single year and love it. That was an incredible ride from the SEC CG and one of the best sports memories in my lifetime.

Gatorpilot continues to embarrass himself
You are defensive and you sound bitter. Maybe it is because UF has been unable to go undefeated while LSU, UT, Auburn and even Alabama (ok, a while back) have been. Paper chumps, soft and the little brother to FSU and the U; unable to win it all legit, have to back your way into it... understandable I suppose.
My prediction of 7-5 for UF is based on the number of starters lost and an unproven QB. That is all I need to go on. But it is just an opiion and prediction. Oh, and since we have no idea how UF will be with a team of his recruits only, I think it is fair. OK, maybe they beat UK once again and UF goes 8-4.
"It's just your random opinion, groundless, baseless, and with no justification. But I've already discovered that's how you like to argue about things, and that you have no rhyme or reason for your opinions other than "just because." I think we already know how I crushed your ignorant and baseless claim to the SEC being the "toughest" conference; even to the point you had to lie.. go crawl back to the swamp chump, you are a little boy wrestling with a man.
((I will give credit where it is due; at least you have real championships in basketball, savor that, I am jealous))

Make your arguments a little weak. I'm no Gator fan but perhaps they've earned a tad more respect than simple trash talk.

Do you stay awake at night dreaming this stuff up?
Win it with zero losses. Win it with one. I fail to see the difference. Why it's important to you, I have no idea. Your team is not within sniffing distance of a four-loss season.
In the previous discussion we shared, Catfan, I systematically dismantled your argument, using stats and quoted sources. You failed to ever mount any serious defense for your, uh, "unique concepts" regarding college athletics. At that time you were exposed as a sham. For you to continue pretending as though you somehow made a good showing in that debate is laughable. Keep trying to convince yourself... you're not even getting your fellow Cat fans to join in with your sophomoric arguments and antics.
You discredit your university and sully ASeaofBlue.com with your comments. I respect the fact that your presence here is permitted, but you certainly aren't doing the Big Blue Nation any favors with your ridiculous behavior.
You're an embarassment.

I never said
In our previous discussion you resorted to lies in a feeble, shamefull attempt to support your emotional, unobjective assertations about the SEC. The only data you posted actually supported my claims. Did you really earn a degree from UF, because it is a good academic school, but you certainly do not display much intelligence.
By solely using the facts and data I proved the SEC has no lgical claim to being the best or toughest football conference. You were unable to do so. How sad you had to lie about what I said when you were clearly proven wrong. However, I understand. It is typical of UF fans to never admit defeat, come up with lame excuses and display unmeritted arrogance.
Son, go back to the rookie league, you are not ready for the bigs. However, I am willing to help you come up with better, more logical arguments to support your emotional, jaded opinions.

And
I speaking primarily of policing our "own". I, for one, kinda like opposing fan viewpoints - be it Duke, UF or whoever - even if and when slightly off-kilter. I think there visit is a compliment in a way and I'd like to show them some respect. All of which, would continue to build a solid base for this great and upcoming blog.

My Favorite Gator Line
I always enjoy roaming the Commonwealth tailgate area and getting the perspective of visiting fans. One of my favorite Gator lines came in Jared Lorenzen's last year.
"Ya'll still got that big ole left handed QB? He scares me."

Looks to me ...
Conversation can sometimes get a little heated. The best way, in my opinion, is to always remember the cardinal rule:
"Comment on the post, not on the person making it".
That keeps the commentary from getting too personal. If you think a commenter is over the top, say that about his/her comments, not about him/her in particular. Works much better that way.
What I do like are people who, once someone points out that they are getting too personal, take the time to honestly evaluate their remarks and correct their behavior. That is the essence of maturity, in my view.
A little spirited back-and-forth is fine, but it's best to try to avoid attaching labels to others. That's the sort of thing that can create hard feelings and require intervention, which I prefer to avoid.
We welcome comments and readers from other schools and boards. I feel that they are entitled to defend their schools/teams, and we aren't an echo chamber in here. Other views and observations that add value to this place are always welcome.

The word ...
Such strong language is tantamount to a personal attack because of the absolute nature of a lie, and it provokes strong, negative reactions in people, just as if you called them a liar.
Please avoid using it.
You might use words like "misrepresent" or "restate incorrectly" if you feel like he hasn't accurately represented what someone says. There is a big difference between an inaccuracy, a misunderstanding, a difference of opinion or even "spin", and a lie.

Your posts
With that said.....No one is asking you to coddle anyone. What we (and I suspect I speak for most posters) would prefer you do
- Respect asob/Tru and his requests
- respect guests and readers
- avoid personal attacks
- not being argumentative for the sake of such
- not go on the offensive when someone disagrees
- take a respectful step back when needed
