Basketball Blogpoll -- Week 1

Its time for the first week's blogpoll.  This poll is being run by March to Madness, and right now we have eleven total participants in the poll.  Other participating blogs besides MTM and ASOB are:

If you've never visited these great college basketball blogs, be sure to do so.

Below, you will find the final aggregated tally.  To get a look at everyone's ballot, you can go to this link for the public spreadsheet.

Keep in mind that this is just week one, and every voter is looking at things a little differently.  There is no well-defined system for evaluating who goes where, everyone has their own method to madness.

Absolutely ...
Contact Gabby at March to Madness.  You can find his email here.

Just mail him your blog details and tell him you want to participate.  He just added another blog to the list of participants 10 minutes ago.

Garner-Webb?
Two blogs had Garner-Webb as the #25 team.  Is that a kick in the teeth or what?  I didn't see Mercer in there anywhere.

Heh ...
we had a bit of back-and-forth about that in the discussion round.  I think it was more a nod to the upset (kind of like Spurrier's nod to Duke every year in the first coach's poll) than it was a serious assertion that G-W belonged in the top 25.

In a way, that is a compliment to Kentucky.  Just not the kind I want to see ... :-)

It shows respect
toward Kentucky in that some thought GW is a good team. They made Kentucky look bad. Same thing happened with Appalachian. They even changed the rules to allow them to get votes in the AP poll. We will find out tonight if GW is all that. If they beat UConn then they will stay there. Even if they play a tight game they might stay ranked. Davidson moved up since they only lost to UNC by 4. You are right about Mercer though. These early polls don't mean much. Was Mercer/USC even on TV? A lot of it is a media popularity contest.

Gardner-Webb

That's right - we voted for GW as a symbolic nod to the little guys who don't get much respect in the CBB world.  Exactly like the App St votes in the football poll this year.  Needless to say, though, after tonight's loss, they'll be dropping out of our next ballot.
