Basketball recruiting update: Terrance Jennings to the Cards

I really hate to throw cold water on our football bliss, but I must.

It seems that coveted basketball big man Terrance Jennings has committed to Louisville on the eve of our biggest triumph in football in recent history.  For those of you who follow recruiting, you know that Jennings was heavily recruited by Kentucky and recently de-committed from Maryland.

Quite frankly, this is a big disappointment to me, and cause for some angst.  Louisville has already put together an awesome recruiting class this year for 2008, probably the best in the nation.  Pitino is out-recruiting us big time at the moment, and even though I expect that to change as potential recruits see the new-look Wildcats, you have to give him credit for making hay while the sun shines.

In other recruiting news, Greg Monroe, #1 prospect in the 2008 class, picked Georgetown. Looks like John Thompson III is reloading up there.  I never thought he would land here, though, so I can't say that this one bothered me much.

Stinks about Jennings
but Pitino's best days are behind hime and BG's are ahead of him.  UK will win it all before UL does..  I truly believe that.  UL still has a feel of a program that lacks chemistry and team play.. maybe it changes.

Pitino
He seems to have gotten his recruiting mojo back after a few years of swinging and missing.

I have no doubt BCG and Pitino have not fought their last fight over a recruit. So far the only player both have recruited hard is Darius Miller, and we all know how that turned out.

Fear not, Chris Singleton will offset the Jennings signing.

Singleton ...
really isn't what we need now, but I would take him in a New York minute.

I am of the "get the best possible players" school of thought. No way I turn down a consensus Top 30 player.

There have been many teams throughout history who have won championships with guard, and swing player heavy lineups. Probably the most recent would be North Carolina a few years ago. Sean May, at 6'9, manned the paint quite effectively. That same UNC team should have been eliminated from the Big Dance by Villanova, who played 4 guards and Sumpter. But alas, the officials screwed the pooch, big time.

Jenning
According to Marc at KentuckyInk, Jenning was never heavily recruited by BCG because of he might not qualify academically.

That's interesting ...
and it very well could be.
