Kentucky post-Missouri Stats

Joe Robbins

If you’ve looked at our stats over the course of the season, the thing that jumps out at you is inconsistency. Some games we do well in certain areas and then the next week, we falter. We were on track to set a UK record with turnovers, but Saturday we managed to mess that idea up.

We are not only inconsistent from game to game, but we show the same inconsistency throughout a game. This has to be very frustrating to the coaching staff.

Here’s our NCAA stats after this past weekend’s game.

Offense:

Red Zone Offense: 82.8% (66) up from 80.8% (79) 2012 Rank N/A

Scoring Offense: 23.2 (93) down from 24.0 (91) 2012 Rank 17.92 (116)

Total Offense:358.9 (99) rank down, but up from 357.6 (98) 2012 Rank 315.00 (113)

Tackles for Loss Allowed: 59 (t-92) down from 48 (66) 2012 Rank N/A

Sacks Allowed: 3.00 (t-107) down from 2.50 (t-90) 2012 Rank 2.17 (75)

Time of possession: 28 (102) up from 27 (113) 2012 Rank N/A

3rd Down Conv. %: 29.3% (117) up from 28.6% (116) 2012 Rank N/A

4th Down Conv. %:69.6% (7) down from 71.4% (6) 2012 Rank N/A

First Downs: 162 (109) rank is down from 145 (108) 2012 Rank N/A

If you look at the play by play, the inconsistency shows up with fumbles, dropped passes, and passes not well thrown. It also shows up in our offensive line play. We block well, then blow an assignment.

Defense

Rushing**Defense: 200.4 (100) d from 197.6 (95) 2012 Rank 161.25 (62)

Passing Defense: 221.1 (42) up from 223.4 (49) 2012 Rank 229.75 (57)

The defense is the same as the offense. We look good on one series and we miss tackles and assignments. In spots, our defense looked pretty good. We still can’t stop the other team on 3rd down – long or short.

Turnover Margin: +0.4 (t-39) up from +0.4 (t-41) 2012 Rank N/A

Landon Foster had that ugly 13 yard punt and he also had one blocked which was the failure of someone to make their blocking assignment. Those two plays made our special team play look awful.

Early in August, Neal Brown talked about his expectations:

Plays per game: 75

3rd Down Conversion Rate: 48%

1st Down yards: 4 or more yards

Actual

Saturday's plays: 79

3rd Down Conversion Rate: 33.3%

1st Down yards: 63.3% - 4 or more yards (18 of 30 attempts)
