Kentucky Football: National Signing Day 2015
It's been a crazy recruiting cycle for UK. There's plenty of reason for frustration, but a significant silver-lining.
UK Expecting 3 NSD Surprises?

Check out UK football's Instagram account. UK currently has 17 known commits poised to fax in their NLI's tomorrow morning. On UK's big board they list the early enrollees of the known 17 along with the two Nebraska transfers for a total of 19 blocks for the board; however, if you look on the very edge of the right corner it appears UK also has blocks "21" and "22". If that's the case, UK may be expecting three more commits tomorrow. Commence late night speculation.
UK Gets Running Back Commitment
BREAKING: CATS ILLUSTRATED EXCLUSIVE. #BBN gets running back commitment! Three-star Sihiem King ($) https://t.co/szbndGgotk
— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) February 4, 2015
UK football coaches are still grinding. With NSD swiftly approaching they secured the commitment from a running back tonight named Sihiem King. King is a 247 Sports three star composite back from Georgia. He recently visited Wake Forest and Washington State. His 247 profile says he had a coaching visit from Shannon Dawson on the second of December. According to Rivals he scored 22 touchdowns in a playoff run this year. I'm glad to see UK take at least one back in this class.
Yahtzee! Derrick Baity Picks 'Cats
At last, some good news. This is one we needed. Baity is a 3-star cornerback from Tampa, Florida with excellent size at 6‘2”, 170#. He will need to put on about 25# of muscle, but that should be no problem with Erik Korem’s high-performance training. He had offers from such worthies as Louisville, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and Iowa. At last, some good news
Previewing Tomorrow's National Signing Day

Jason Strowbridge Decommits From Kentucky

— Tyler Thompson (@MrsTylerKSR) February 2, 2015
Defensive end Jason Strowbridge decommitted from UK earlier today. 247 Sports crystal ball gurus projected him going elsewhere for the last few months. Today he announced he'll be attending North Carolina. Anyone else numb to decommits at this point? I've moved past numbness and am just dead inside.
Sullivan Simpson Accepts Preferred Walk-on Offer
Sometimes, the value of these kinds of players are hard to measure. They become scholarship players fairly often after a year or so. Here are his Hudl highlights. Check them out.
Dowell Twins Decommit, 2015 In Jeopardy
Huge loss for UK RT @BillBankGreene Andrew and David Dowell have de-committed from Kentucky. Will go to Michigan State per their father.
— Ben Roberts (@NextCats) January 28, 2015
In what is quite possibly the worst week ever for Kentucky football recruiting, Andrew and David Dowell, two 4-star players, have decommitted from Kentucky and flipped to Michigan State. Unlike the other recent decommitments, this is really a near-catastrophic setback for the Mark Stoops and the Kentucky recruiting class. I have no idea if this is just a run of bad luck, or some kind of failure on the part of the staff, or just the difficulties at the end of last season coming home to roost. Whatever it is, this loss places Kentucky far out of the top 25 and almost out of the top 50 for 2015. This close to National Signing Day, it will take some kind of magical comeback to rescue 2015 from returning to the pre-Stoops depths of futility. Very disappointing news, and that’s putting it mildly.
Davon Hamilton Decommits From Kentucky
Ohio defensive tackle Davon Hamilton committed to Kentucky in early December, but yesterday news broke that he had flipped his commitment to Ohio State. Hamilton had previously been committed to Ohio and Pitt prior to being committed to the Wildcats. Hamilton had visited Ohio State last weekend for a national title celebration/recruiting weekend that saw 45,000 Buckeye fans fill The Horseshoe - undoubtedly an impressive sight. Hamilton had previously visited Columbus in November prior to his UK commitment, according to Eleven Warriors. Hamilton was the second UK commit to flip to Ohio State this cycle, the first being Alex Stump. Ohio State is no longer facing scholarship reductions from NCAA penalties, and previous fringe recruits OSU would have passed on strictly due to numbers may begin to be in play. Those fringe recruits in Ohio will typically be UK targets.
UK Adds Commitment From Defensive Tackle
BREAKING: Three-star defensive tackle Javon Provitt commits to Kentucky. Had offers from WVU, Purdue, Cincinnati, others.
— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) January 25, 2015
Rivals' Justin Rowland is reporting UK gained the commitment from Ohio defensive tackle Javon Provitt today. The three star 247 composite Provitt is listed as 6'3'' 305 pounds. If current defensive tackle commit DaVon Hamilton flips to Ohio State Provitt will blunt his departure. Provitt reportedly chose UK over West Virginia, Purdue, and Cincinnati. I've been told by a friend who coached against Provitt's high school team that he could play nose tackle or defensive tackle at the next level. Take that with a grain of salt for now.
Jeremiah Dinson Decommits
American DB Jeremiah Dinson decommits from Kentucky after "great" visit to Auburn @New_EraJD3
— Josh Darrow (@joshdarrow) January 25, 2015
Florida cornerback Jeremiah Dinson decommitted from UK today after taking his official visit to Auburn this weekend. Recall last week UK flipped cornerback Chris Westry who had been committed to Auburn. Turnabout is indeed fair play. Dinson originally committed to UK in early September, but he never visited Lexington, according to his 247 profile. If he visits UK next weekend then the Wildcats still have a chance; otherwise, Auburn sounds like it's the choice. Best wishes to Dinson if he goes elsewhere.

UK Gets Commitment From 6'4'' Cornerback
Former Auburn DB commitment Chris Westry has flipped to Kentucky according to 24/7 Sports. Big FB news!
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) January 20, 2015
247 Sports is reporting UK flipped a 6'4'' (!) cornerback from Auburn. His name is Chris Westry, and he apparently visited Lexington last weekend. UK's coaches have been recruiting taller defensive backs, but this is one of the tallest that I can remember. I suspect given Mark Stoops long track record of coaching and evaluating defensive backs, that he wouldn't offer a player of that height if he didn't also have the speed, quickness, and change of direction required for this position in the SEC. Great news and UK now has an insurance policy if Jeremiah Dinson's wandering eyes lead him to decommit and pursue other opportunities.
Is UK Football Recruiting about to bust loose?
The Wildcats haven’t received a commitment from the class of 2015 since 12/4/14. While others seem to be getting theirs, we have fallen to #37 in the Rivals Rankings for 2015. There is, however, activity with regard to the 2015, 2016, and 2017 classes.
Football Recruiting Isn't Slowing Down, Actually
The team more than doubled their win count, but recruiting hasn't noticeably improved. Or has it? Let's examine.
Damien Harris Picks Tide
Kentucky put up a good fight, but Damien Harris goes with the perennial title contenders, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Vince Marrow Staying At Kentucky
Kentucky keeps its recruiting ace, and signifies further commitment to the football program.
Will Harbaugh hurt Kentucky's recruiting in Ohio?
There is a lot of speculation going around about how Jim Harbaugh’s hiring at Michigan will affect Kentucky’s recruiting efforts, particularly in Ohio.
Blakeney's Decision Day
This seems ever so slightly overwrought to me. Blakeney is a good player, but I think Calipari is focusing on Malik Newman at this point. If Blakeney picks UK, that's great, but I'm betting on LSU. I don't think Mizzou has enough to offer right now, but you can never tell about these young guys.
Harbaugh To Michigan Hurts UK Recruiting
This particular coaching carousel could have a major impact on Kentucky football recruiting.

Yahtzee: Tyrone Riley Commits to UK Football

We interrupt the pending Kentucky-Kansas basketball game with breaking football news. Per Scout's Patrick Loney, UK football picked up a commitment tonight from 6'6'' 230 pound defensive end Tyrone Riley of Georgia. We now return you to your regular basketball game scheduling.
Will a loss to the MSU Bulldogs affect recruiting?
With Mississippi State’s success and their ascent to the #1 spot in both the A/P and coaches polls, Kentucky is in a win-win situation when it comes to recruiting. The Wildcats only have to make a game of it in order to gain respect and maybe momentum in the minds of recruits. Win the game and shock the world. This game is the CBS prime-time game. When was the last time that’s happened?
