Sitting atop the new 2019 Scout rankings is 6’11” James Wiseman from Tennessee, and so far, Wiseman has had plenty of good things to say about Kentucky after being the first Class of 2019 player to receive an offer from John Calipari.
In fact, Kentucky may be leading for the junior big man, according to Scout’s Evan Daniels.
“I don’t usually call anybody the favorite this early in a recruitment, but it sure seems like Kentucky is in great shape with James Wiseman,” Daniels told the Herald-Leader’s Ben Roberts. “They’ve really targeted him. They went down and saw him in South America. They prioritized him. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re out in front and leading right now.”
Wiseman played on the USA U16 team over the summer, bringing home a gold medal while averaging 11.4 points and 5 rebounds per game in less than 18 minutes per game.
He also played for coach Penny Hardaway’s Team Penny squad on the Nike Circuit.
Wiseman models his game after another former Kentucky big man, Anthony Davis, and Daniels said that he is continuing to evolve and add to his game.
Kentucky has all the picks in Wiseman’s Crystal Ball, but being a junior, there is still a lot of time left. However, it seems like Wiseman will stay at the top or near the top in the 2019 rankings and it seems like Calipari would love to lock down Wiseman in the 2019 class.
