Monday is here, and while it may be the hardest day of the week to get through, it just got a bit easier to manage thanks to a new mixtape for Bam Adebayo.
The five-star big man is expected to be a force for the Kentucky Wildcats next season and a bruising enforcer in the paint, something UK badly missed last season.
And in a recent interview with Basketball Insiders, Adebayo and fellow UK signee Malik Monk talked about signing with the Cats. Adebayo pointed out how UK's lineage of star big men under John Calipari helped make UK an easy pick for him.
"It did because when you see what [Coach Calipari has] done with all the big men, you can’t complain with his philosophy of basketball," Adebayo said. "I look at everybody’s big man and I see [his are the ones that are] most improved and that are staying in the league, so it wasn’t a hard adjustment to go with Coach Cal."
As for Monk, he just wanted to go to the school that he felt like was the best fit for him, regardless of who else was there.
"My decision was based on what was best for me, not anybody else," Monk said when asked whether he was waiting to see which other recruits would sign with Kentucky. "I was just trying to do what was best for me. I mean, it had a little bit of an impact, but it really wasn’t that much."
And as for next year's version of Kentucky basketball, Bam is focused on pushing UK further than this year's team went.
"We’re just looking to pick up from where we left off," said Adebayo. "They left off short, we’re looking to pick up and add on."
