THIS WEEK IN KENTUCKY SOCCER: NCAA Tournament Time!

The College Cup, which is what I think they're trying to call the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament now, starts on Thursday, and runs all the way through December 11, a day that shall live in infamy. The College Cup selection show is today at 1pm on Facebook and Twitter, whichever is your preferred social media platform.

The good news for us Cats fans is Kentucky got a bye into the second round of the tournament, so we don't have to sweat whether they get into the championship or not all day. I know you were nervous!

The bad news is Kentucky is the lowest seeded team in the 48 team tournament (only 16 teams are seeded in soccer), and therefore has to play in the #1 seed's bracket. That #1 seed is three-time champion Maryland, alma mater of such noble luminaries as Kyle Beckerman, Omar Gonzales, Graham Zusi, and everyone's favorite soccer commentator Taylor Twellman. This year's UMD squad is undefeated, sports a +30 goal difference on the regular and post-season, and only drew twice all season. So that's scary.

Kentucky will learn who its possible second round opponents are today, so I'll update this post as soon as the draw comes out. Go Cats!

UPDATE: Kentucky will face the winner of the first round matchup between Creighton and Tulsa on Sunday, November 20 at THE MF BELL. Be there, this is a big deal!
