As all 32 NFL teams are making their final cuts before Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline to do so, we'll probably see several former Kentucky Wildcats getting handed their walking papers.
Every team must be down to 53 players by then, and the Buffalo Bills announced that former Kentucky great John Conner was among those cut today, according to the team's official website. Because he is a veteran, Conner won't be subject to waivers and can look to sign with whichever team he desires so long as someone wants him.
The 5-11, 245-pound Conner joined the Bills this offseason after spending last season with the New York Jets, where he played for Bills head coach Rex Ryan. Conner also played for Ryan from 2010-2012 in New York.
The 27-year old Conner was originally selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Kentucky, where he was one of the greatest fullbacks the school had ever had. He has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants.
Conner is primarily a blocking back, but has run the ball 27 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career. He also has 12 receptions for 84 yards and one TD. Conner had a great start to this NFL career as true fullback, but in this new age of pass-heavy offenses and h-backs who double as tight ends and fullbacks, guys like Conner have become a dying breed in this league.
