The Kentucky Wildcats never appeared to be in the running for 2016 star Dennis Smith Jr., but that didn't stop John Calipari from giving the five-star point guard a scholarship offer this summer.
It appears it was all for not though as Smith Jr. has reportedly committed to the NC State Wolfpack, according to Scout.com's Evan Daniels:
Five-star 2016 PG Dennis Smith has committed to North Carolina State, he tells Scout.

This is a major pick up by Mark Gottfried and his staff. Dennis Smith is a game changer. One of the best PG's in 2016.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Smith is a senior at Fayetteville's Trinity Christian School. He's also the No. 2 point guard and No. 5 prospect overall in 2016, according to the 247Sports Composite. NC State was the favorite in his 24/7 Crystal Ball with Florida being the only other school to receive predictions for him. Smith Jr. recently cut his school list to Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville, Duke, Wake Forest, and NC State.
