College football Week 8 was supposed to be light and nothing special with only one top-25 matchup while other power teams were on the road facing what appeared to be vastly outmatched opponents.
It was anything but thanks to some massive upsets and overtime thrillers, but nothing was more exciting than Georgia Tech's 22-16 win over No. 9 Florida State. One week after Michigan lost to Michigan State on a botched punt returned for a score on the game's final play, FSU lost after Tech blocked a field-goal attempt at the gun and returned it 78 yards for the game-winning score.
It's now safe to say Clemson is now the team to beat in the ACC and may be the conference's only team capable of making it to the College Football Playoff after FSU's loss. The Tigers looked impressive in their 58-0 win at Miami, and they've got a clear path to the ACC title and perhaps a berth in the CFP.
The other big upset this weekend saw No. 3 Utah blown out at USC, 42-24. The Utes were easily the Pac-12's best shot at getting in the CFP, but after that performance, don't expect anyone from that league to be vying for the national championship.
