This week sees both the Elite 11 and The Opening taking place in Oregon. Last summer Drew Barker participated in the Elite 11 and The Opening. While no Kentucky target is involved with the Elite 11 this year there will be several recruits competing at The Opening, including UK tight end commit CJ Conrad. For a useful primer on The Opening and The Elite 11 see here. If you find the time this week it may be worth checking out the event on ESPN to see how UK's recruits stack up with the rest of the competition.
Of the 162 recruits participating there are a handful for UK fans to pay attention to in that they have either visited UK, or have expressed an intention to visit in the near future. Besides Conrad, the biggest recruit will be 247's overall number one running back in the country Damien Harris. Also present will be receiver Deondre Farrier, linebacker Josh Smith, defensive tackle Rasheem Greene, defensive back Marcus Lewis, and defensive tackle Daron Payne. Former UK commit Montrell Custis will also be participating.
UK is probably not the favorite to land any of these recruits, but their interest is a testament to the work the coaching staff has done. Seeing how Conrad and Harris stack up against the rest of the competition should prove interesting enough. For a full list of the participants see here.
