Congrats to Florida.
This isn't really about George, but is about the knee-jerk reaction towards events of a bi-polar Kentucky football fan, namely me.
The paranoid me:
Hit the panic button! George Brown committed to Florida after sucking in the Big Blue Nation to watch the debacle. He even pulled a baby gator out of his pocket. What is particularly irking was Brown's blatant effort on twitter to get UK fans to watch him announce his commitment to Florida.
The live for today me:
This isn’t the end of the world. You have to look at the big picture. We already have six committed offensive linemen with a few others favoring the Cats.
The paranoid me:
C. J. Conrad went to the Ohio State Friday Night Lights after telling the BBN that he wasn’t all that interested in the Buckeyes. I think we were all fearful that the Buckeyes would offer and Conrad would accept and flip.
The live for today me:
For whatever reason, Ohio State didn't offer. Was it because he didn't have a great workout? Was it because he let them know he is firmly committed to the Cats? We'd like to think that. Fact is, he's still a Cat.
The paranoid me:
Alex Stump, as everyone knows, took a visit to Stanford and received an offer from one of the most highly regarded academic schools in America. Paranoia runs deep. Was the offer committable? Will he flip if he gets a written offer on August 2nd?
The live for today me:
He told Justin Rowland he's still a Cat.
The paranoid me:
C.J. Stalker, who once had the Cats as a favorite, chose Virginia. 4* LB Josh Smith, who some thought would commit to Kentucky, chose Vanderbilt instead. Vanderbilt.
The live for today me:
Kentucky isn't for everyone.
The paranoid me:
Kentucky lost 3* WR Dahu Green, NR TE Jonathon Greenard, 3* RB James Allen, 3* OLTroy Thingstad and 2* DE Tim Bonner to Louisville. Louisville! Louisville also picked up transfers from Northwestern and a QB from Washington. They joined the Georgia boys who wanted to follow Grantham to Louisville and were apparently willing to do anything to get there. Is this Karma for Mark Stoops announced non-attendance at the Louisville media event called the Governor’s Cup Luncheon? By the way, the Cards average star rating dropped with their most recent commitment.
The live for today me:
Would any of these guys receive a written offer from Kentucky in August?
The paranoid me:
Damien Harris, the #1 5* RB from Berea tweeted a photo of the breakfast he fixed for himself that had an Ohio State cup in it. Obviously, his flirtation with the BBN was a hoax all along.
The live for today me:
We're worried about that?
The paranoid me:
The other 5* players we’ve offered don’t seem to have much interest in the Cats. Let’s take a look.
5* DL Daron Payne (Irondale, AL) once called Kentucky a dark horse. We’ve not heard that in a long, long time. He’s projected to commit to the Crimson Tide.
5* DL Rasheem Green (Gardena, CA) was supposed to be very interested in Kentucky. We’ve heard nothing from him in a while. He’s projected to sign with USC.
5* DL CeCe Jefferson (Glen St. Mary, FL) who has threatened to visit Kentucky never has. He’s a friend of Damien Harris. He’s projected to join George Brown at Florida.
5* RB Jacques Patrick (Orlando, FL) has never shown interest in Kentucky. He’s likely to go with Florida State.
5* DL Trent Thompson (Albany, GA) hasn’t given Kentucky a thought. Georgia’s on his mind.
5* LB Malik Jefferson (Mesquite, TX) apparently had a little interest, but he’s projected to announce for Texas A&M.
5* DE Josh Sweat (Chesapeake, VA) has never had any interest in the Cats. He’s projected to commit to Virginia or Virginia Tech.
5* DB Kevin Toliver (Jacksonville, FL) committed to LSU when Joker Phillips was our coach and hasn’t waivered.
5* OL Chuma Edoga (Powder Springs, GA) committed to USC a while ago.
5* OL Mitch Hyatt (Suwanee, GA) committed to Clemson early in the recruiting cycle.
The live for today me:
So, what's new? At least this coaching staff wasn't afraid to offer.
The paranoid me:
There are players out there who want an offer from Kentucky in order to get offers from other SEC schools (can you say Lawrence Cager?).
The live for today me:
Yawn.
The paranoid me:
And you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend, ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction.
The live for today me:
It's a beautiful day.
Final thoughts on Florida. Read this. Florida is down to eight commitments.
Final thought on George Brown: May you have to block Matt Elam for four years.
In answer to the headline question? Fat chance.
