And it's Florida for Brown. Rare recruiting loss for an Ohio kid UK really wanted. Crazy to say that these days, huh?

Not quite, but the players UK has wanted from Ohio and missed on have ended up at top-shelf programs. No shame there and still a long way until NSD.

George Brown Jr. committed to Florida yesterday over UK. Brown had been considered a UK lean for quite a while, but credit to Florida for winning him over. My "George Brown Jr. YAHTZEE!" post will now never see the light of day. Here's an excerpt before I delete:
This was my first time watching Brown [highlight tape] and he is more of a "raw" recruit than I had previously realized. Yet, after watching his highlight tape his long frame and athleticism for someone his size are evident. Those two attributes can't be taught, and provide a promising foundation for further development. After adding forty to sixty pounds, and learning some technique, Brown should be a regular contributor several years down the road.
The point being, Brown has a high ceiling, and it would have been nice to have gotten him, but he' was not going to have an immediate impact. Meanwhile, the current class has six other OL commits.

Potentially more bad news as four star UK commit CJ Conrad camped at Ohio State last night. Many are speculating if he were to be offered, a likely scenario, he would take it. Meanwhile, UK's other highly rated recruit, four star Alex Stump, decided to visit Stanford this weekend after receiving an offer.

Hank is currently drafting a piece that explores what could be football's weekend of discontent and its meaning. Stay tuned.

Coaches Stoops, Brown, and Elliot had a few things to say yesterday. I like his commitment to scheduling UofL going forward even if the SEC expands to 9 games.
-
Mike Edwards, who signed with UK in February but isn't enrolling this August, will reportedly be enrolling in January. Great news! He is George Brown Jr's cousin. I want to watch the annual UK-UF games with their families.

Trap games for 2014. I think the UK-UGA game is a good pick. UGA has beaten UK on average by roughly a touchdown since 2009 if you filtered out last year's results (which came on the heels of a week filled with failed drug tests, and other messes).

Charlie Strong is changing the culture at Texas. They'll be better for it in the long run. I don't know if Texas will ever score a lot of points with Strong at the helm, but the defense will be very good.

Dunno how many are aware, but I'm also contributing to SB Nation's SEC blog Team Speed Kills. Here's my breakdown of recruiting in the SEC East. So far, I've learned that a lower case letter can easily upset some people.

Speaking of which, Coach Spurrier, how did you deal with the players who didn't buy-in upon your arrival at USC?

Iowa State should be pretty good this season. Their player, Georges Niang, just underwent a weight loss.

Manute Bol has a son named, of course, Bol Bol. Apparently, he's a legit basketball talent. He has two years to put on weight and fill out. As a personal aside, when I was at UK, one day I went to Qdoba for lunch. In walks Shagari Alleyne, Tubby Smith, and some assistant coaches. Smith asked the Qdoba workers to give Shagari extra meat, veggies, cheese, and tortillas. Everyone laughed like it was a joke, but everyone kind of knew it kinda wasn't.

...And connected to this whole event, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith inserts foot in mouth. I long ago thought Smith outlived his usefulness at ESPN, and while I'm not sure ESPN should fire him for emotionally tweeting, I also wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
