Mark Stoops has apparently decided to skip the Governor’s Cup luncheon. I don’t think this is particularly wise. In fact, I wish he’d reconsider.
Larry Vaught tries gamely to defend him here, but I think the balance of the equities is against Stoops on this one, although to his credit, he did notify officials of his plan "several months ago," according to this article at the Herald-Leader.
Louisville Card Game doesn’t like it either, but they beclown themselves with over-the-top criticism the quality of which you must usually attend a karaoke bar in Hillview around midnight on a Saturday to hear.

If we get this guy, it will be the biggest thing since Tim Couch. Maybe bigger, given where we are right now.

Follow-on to my observations on the video last night. Consider these comments from some Evan Daniels:
"That dude is a different kind of athlete," said Scout.com’s Evan Daniels. "He’s not the type of athlete you see every day."
…
Daniels also noted that Monk is not a "one-tool player." Sure, he’s one of the best — arguably the best — backcourt scorer in the country, but he also passes and defends at an elite level. So those of you thinking there was nothing more than dunks to his game — I invite you to think again.

Former UK star Jack Givens is a fan of Coach Cal. Consider:
"Now it is tougher with all the new players, but coach Cal and his job do a phenomenal job. It’s amazing when you think how good he is getting the most out of his players so quickly. It takes some players three or four years to blend together, and he gets it in one or two years. That speaks highly of Cal and the great assistant coaches he has around him who work guys individually to get the maximum out of their potential in the short term."

SEC teams as characters from "The League." Meh. Honestly, I’m going to have a lot of fun if we wind up upsetting some of these smug SEC teams that fancy themselves football schools.

I think the Big 12 commissioner is full of crap, and there’s no sugar-coating it. There is no lack of NCAA inquiries, he just doesn’t like who they’re inquiring about < cough > Oklahoma State < /cough >. He wants to accuse the SEC of cheating, and tries to do so without, you know, actually doing it. Weak. Hat tip: Real Clear Sports.
Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News agrees with me, but for different reasons. -
College football players want their football videogames back. Quit suing the maker, then. Just sayin’. Money quote:
Here’s the kicker of the video-game debate. Many current ACC and SEC players interviewed for this article say not only are they unaware they could eventually be paid for past video game appearances, they say they don’t care about being paid.

Australia is the next basketball powerhouse, according to Ricky O’Donnell. I think he makes a very good point, and for as big as Australia is, you’d have thought they would’ve made a bigger impact before now, but I guess it just took a bit of time.

Preview of the ACC for next season. Duke is the favorite, and I think that’s right, but who is really a challenger? Louisville? Maybe. North Carolina? I’m doubtful. Virginia looks like the most likely.

Under-the-radar sophomores to watch. I like Marcus Lee, of course, and I think Conner Frankamp is likely to have a breakout year — he reminds me of a smaller J.J. Redick.

I remember when Kendall Marshall got picked in the lottery, and I laughed. The Lakers waived him, and now Milwaukee has claimed him. Look, Marshall is capable of being a journeyman NBA player, probably. But a lottery pick was an obvious joke

Ryder Cup berth seems to be slipping away from Tiger Woods after his performance, or rather lack thereof, in the British Open.
Woods’ struggle of course remains a popular topic among the talking set. Earlier this week, Paul Azinger said on ESPN that he believes Woods’ issues aren’t physical or mental, but "emotional." Brandel Chamblee said on Golf Channel that Tiger’s recalibrated swing simply doesn’t work. "You’re talking about a guy who has willfully dismantled a golf swing that made him the best player in the world," Chamblee said. "The golf swing he has now will not hold up like the one before." Everyone has an opinion.
Yes, everyone does. My opinion is that Woods’ pursuit of perfection has become the enemy of his game. Hat tip: Real Clear Sports.
