Joe Hall had completed his first 2 years succeeding Adolph Rupp but his 33-21 overall W-L record did not measure up. His first 2 recruiting classes (Miller, Wood & Warford in 1972, then Johnson, Haskins, Holland, Whitus, Mayhall & Utz) fell far short of typical UK recruiting classes. Then comes 1974. Hall led his returning Cats to a 17-2 record on a summer tour in Australia. He landed a highly regarded recruiting class (Givens, Lee, Robey, Phillips & Hall) that included several HS A-A and much needed height. 1975 might be a make or break year for Hall and the Cats. Fortunately it turned out pretty well. The 1975 Cats propelled UK back into the national limelight.
