2014 NFL Draft: Draft Profile for Donte Rumph

Andy Lyons

Donte Rumph isn't too likely to get drafted, but he could be picked up as a free agent.

Donte Rumph has had a difficult career at Kentucky with injuries and other difficulties, but now his senior season has come and gone and he will be looking forward to what comes next. Will it be the NFL? Maybe, but he seems unlikely to be drafted, which means he'll have to make a team somewhere. Let's take a look at his measurables:

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 337 lbs.

40-yard dash 5.58

225 lb. bench reps: 14

Ranking: 89 out of 158 Defensive tackles

Rumph has some attributes that professional scouts look for. NFL Draft Scout has an evaluation of him thus:

08/21/13 - TOP KENTUCKY PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 3. DT Donte Rumph (6-3, 320, 5.08)...A big-bodied defensive tackle with two years of starting experience, Rumph could prove the foundation of Kentucky's defensive line in 2013. Rumph (pronounced "Rump") offers plenty of precisely that, serving as an effective run-stuffing presence due to his size and strength. He emerged as a full-time starter in 2012 with improving conditioning, recording career-highs in tackles (36), tackles for loss (six) and sacks (four).

Rumph's weight was distributed better in 2012 and it showed in his ability to move laterally. He can surprise opponents with his quickness and has an effective over-arm swim move to slip into the backfield. It will be interesting to see what his conditioning is like in 2013 as he missed most of the spring after sustaining an injury to his shoulder which required surgery. He's practiced since and is expected to be ready for Kentucky's opener August 31 vs. former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino and Western Kentucky. Rumph initially signed with Kentucky in 2008 but academic struggles sent him to Fork Union Military Academy for two years. As such, at 24 years-old, he'd be entering the NFL as an older prospect than most. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

As you can see, there are some things to like there. After shoulder surgery, Rumph seemed to be pretty sound for most of the season and could see duty on a professional team at some level if he works at it. He isn't currently considered a likely draft pick, but he could have a chance to catch on somewhere.
