Get to know your Kentucky Football 2014 Commitments - Blake Bone

By Will Marshall and Hank Rippetoe

Blake Bone WR

Woodruff High School

Woodruff, SC

Bone is a 6’ 4’’ 180 pound wide receiver who claimed offers from various SEC and ACC schools. It was believed his final choice came down between Kentucky and South Carolina, but limited scholarship spots at USC could have directed him UK’s way. His recruitment this summer was a hot topic in UK recruiting circles due to a combination of UK’s imperative need for tall receivers on the roster. Bone eventually committed in August, and then went on to have a great senior year culminating in being named to the South Carolina vs North Carolina all-star game. In that game, which aired on ESPNU, Bone had several receptions. Scouts present at practice all week stated Bone would need to improve his speed and route-running at the next level.

Bone will be a candidate for a redshirt this season due to his lack of mass; however, he may see playing time due to his tremendous height alone. UK’s wide receiver corps lacks tall receivers who can be utilized in the red zone with fade patterns. Bone’s physical attributes may be needed this year situationally though he would probably benefit from a redshirt season.
