I'm not sure who all was on campus for Junior Day, but most of them had a great time. 2015 football recruiting is off to a great start. The recruits got their tour of facilities, were shown the athletic expansions doming soon, got to see how they looked in UK garb, attend College Game Day and experience the BBN at Rupp last night. The only thing that made it less than totally great was Kentucky's third loss at Rupp Arena under John Calipari's leadership. I'll let other lament that loss, but for me, Florida was the better team. UK's young guys are just the not ready for prime time players. Maybe they'll get there. Who knows?
Kentucky had two Rivals 5-star visitors over the weekend plus a ton of talent roaming the halls over at the Nutter Center. Players were mostly from the 2015 recruiting class, but there were also some from the 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes. Things are happening so fast, it is impossible for me to publish the ASoB Big Board. It is out of date on a daily basis, but that is a good thing. Right? Kentucky and the football staff are recruiting like you've never seen Kentucky recruit before and the kids are responsive.
Damien Harris* of Madison Southern is the nation's # 1 running back, according to Rivals, ESPN and 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Scout has him as the #2 RB, and Nike has him as the 94th best player in the nation. Video. Twitter.
Daron Payne is the # 2 ranked defensive tackle, according to Rivals. He is from Birmingham, AL and plays for Shades Valley HS. Twitter. Video not available. Payne is ranked as the 45th best player in the nation by Nike.
If Stoops & Company can pull off commitments from these two, look out! The buzz across the land will bring in even more interest from the high school ranks. Landing Harris alone would set things in motion and generate a lot of interest from the high school ranks. His commitment would be the equivalent of Drew Barker's. Landing Payne would really upset the recruiting apple cart simply because he's expected to sign with either Alabama or Auburn. Getting Payne to Lexington for this weekend was huge.
While Harris and Payne are the biggest names, there are others who could become household names across the BBN.
That may not be all who were in attendance because the list above tweeted out about having a great time during their stay. Expect to see some commitments over the next week or so. I included their Twitter handles because they are seeking followers, so get to work UK fans and show these kids some BBN by just following them, but please don't try to recruit them, leave that to the coaches. To see how these recruits felt about their visit go here or here.
A couple of things to end this:
From Braylon Heard:
"Changing my name to Stoops"
Also, I was told last night that Kobie Walker is doing a great job of convincing the D.C. area (including Maryland and Virginia) kids to take a look at UK.
