Kentucky Wildcats Basektball: More News on Skal Labissiere's Guardian

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

The front page of the Memphis Commercial Appeal has a story on another Haitian kid that Skal's guardian sponsored. The long and short of it is the article reads as if Gerald Hamilton - the guardian - shipped the young kid to Boston once it was clear he was not a Division 1 athlete. Hamilton accuses the kid of being a bad influence on Skal and his biological kids - even accusing him of stealing some gift cards from his school that were to used for fund raising. However, the coach at the school says that no gift cards were ever found missing.

The story was discussed on Friday afternoon Gary Parrish radio show. Interestingly, Skal was once considered a Memphis lock but is now being seen as moving toward UK. As an aside, Parrish said never to count Cal out on anyone and sited the Terrence Jones case. Parrish did it in a way that was complementary of Cal's recruiting powers - and quite humorous laughing at how the kid announced on national TV and before the day was out Cal had him committed to UK. His point was anyone at Memphis who thought the Skal to Memphis was done was totally underestimating Cal.

Anyway, Geoff Calkins was also on with Gary. The conclusion was that the guardian was a bad guy and only trying to ride Skal until he got a pro contract. Up until this story linked here broke, they were willing to hold back in saying Hamilton was an out and out bad guy. However, if the story is true then they said their indifference would become disdain, strong disdain.

Why is this important to us? I had thought we would avoid Skal but looks like UK will continue to flirt with having him come to Kentucky.
