Kentucky Football: Another 4-star Yahtzee! for Stoops & Co.

USA TODAY Sports

Kentucky adds Cory Johnson, a junior college transfer defensive tackle from ASA College.

Kentucky scoops up yet another highly-ranked junior college player, Cory Johnson from ASA College in Brooklyn, NY. Johnson is a 6'3" 295# defensive tackle who had offers from Arizona St. Sun Devils , Miami Hurricanes, and Tennessee Volunteers among others.

Johnson is considered a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and 247sports.com, a 3-star prospect by Scout.com, and he is not ranked by ESPN.com.

It's never a bad thing to land a large, experienced defensive lineman, and at this point, Kentucky has 6 players ranked as Rivals 4-star players for 2014 so far. Of course, we all know that these rankings are suspect, and that we can't really know if any of these guys will ultimately be any good.

I'm sure you'll recall that Rivals only ranked Randall Cobb as a 3-star, and he's playing on Sundays. Also recall that Aaron Boyd came to Kentucky ranked as a 4-star, and outside of a few games his very last year, he produced almost nothing.

With all that said, we'd be remiss as Kentucky fans if we weren't excited about our highest-rated recruiting class in memory. If these guys really do turn out to be as advertised, in three years, Kentucky could be a serious threat to do some damage in the SEC, if not win an SEC East title. I'd say we still have a very long row to how before we can get excited about something like that happening, but right now, winning 3 games in the SEC is something that could happen as soon as next year. I don't know about you, but I'd be excited about that.
