Kentucky Football: Justin Taylor To Transfer From Kentucky

I’m not at all happy to hear this, because he was a highly touted back with SEC size who never got to play a moment at Kentucky. But reports have come in, and Coach Stoops has confirmed, that running back Justin Taylor will transfer from Kentucky. From Kyle Tucker at the Courier-Journal:

Kentucky running back Justin Taylor has asked for and been granted a release and is expected to transfer, athletic department spokesman Tony Neely said Monday. A reporter for Tiger Illustrated, the Clemson affiliate on the Rivals.com network, tweeted that Taylor will likely end up at South Carolina State, which UK could not confirm.

While this is regrettable, it was perhaps inevitable. Kentucky is adding Jojo Kemp this summer, a very impressive back out of DeLand, Florida who is also a 4-star and is expected to contend for time along with Raymond Sanders, Jonathan George, Josh Clemons, Dyshawn Mobley. With Kemp coming in, that’s just a few too many young backs and not enough carries to go around.

If there is a position at which Kentucky is comfortably deep with quality talent, it is running back. We wish Justin well, and I regret that he’s going to have to sit out yet another year in residence, but that seems likely. He’ll still have 3 years to play.
