Kentucky Wildcats: Morning Quickies - Ashely Lowery Edition

News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. Ashely Lowery reportedly doing better, still in intensive care. Kentucky softball defeats national champs, moves on to SEC Tournament. QB Drew Barker excitement intensifies. More.

The good news this morning is that Kentucky safety Ashely Lowery is doing better. He’s still in intensive care, but he was responsive and correctly answered doctor’s questions.

Tweet of the Morning:

You go, Coach Scott!

Your Quickies:

Kentucky football
  • WBN makes a persuasive argument that Kentucky’s recent offering of several high school quarterbacks is not an indication that they fear losing Drew Barker.

  • "Things are looking pretty good" for Ashely Lowery. That’s just fantastic, that was an unbelievable wreck. He’s extremely lucky to be alive. I hope his injuries are something he can recover fully from.

    More from Larry Vaught.

  • Mark Stoops & Co. completely turned things around with Drew Barker. I can’t figure out what Phillips and his staff were thinking.

Other UK sports
  • As Wild Weasel noted yesterday, Kentucky softball pulled off a huge series win against the #7 ranked and defending national champs, Alabama.

The Wildcats will face South Carolina in the SEC tournament, having earned the #7 seed.

College football
College basketball
  • Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star thinks KU will not be affected by Ben McLemore’s alleged problems. He thinks that the NCAA is in a "weakened state" due to their ethics problems with the Miami matter.

This sounds like wishful thinking to me. Kansas may very well not be affected, but the NCAA is going to wonder why nobody at Kansas thought to ask who Blackstock was when McLemore left him those game tickets. That’s a question KU is going to have to answer, and that answer seems problematic to me.
