Kentucky Wildcats: Morning Quickies - Derby Week Edition

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. Softball loses series to Missouri. SEC dominates NFL draft. More Andrew Wiggins. Michael Jordan gets married. More.

The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday. It's time to get excited about the fastest two minutes in sports.

Tweet of the Morning:

Anyone who thinks this doesn't help Kentucky's recruiting is ... dare I say it? ... delusional.

Your Quickies:

Kentucky football
  • Mark Stoops and D.J. Eliot put seven players into the NFL from last year’s Florida St. squad. Wi Wildcat Blue Nation

  • Larry Warford considered a "steal." Probably, in the sense that the Lions got him later than where I thought he would go. KSR

  • So Kentucky has a walk-on that passed for 5,915 and 89 touchdowns in high school. VaughtsViews

Kentucky basketball
  • John Wilmhoff at KSR wonders when Tom Crean will come back to Kentucky, hat in hand. To this point, the win over the Wildcats in Bloomington remains the highlight of Tom Crean’s program history.

Despite returning almost all their starting lineup from 2011-12, Indiana was unable to improve over last year’s performance, despite being a better team statistically (via Hank).

  • Dave Telep calls the Andrew Wiggins-LeBron James comparison "not accurate." I think Telep is right in one sense, and wrong in another. Athletically, they have quite a bit in common, but their games are somewhat different. LeBron is more of a slasher/power player, and Wiggins depends more upon finesse and quickness. Rant Sports

  • Cliff Alexander (2014) is looking very good for Kentucky:

"They’re coming pretty hard," Alexander said. "I had a home visit with them a couple of days ago. It went well. My parents love Coach Cal."
When I hear that, I get very optimistic. Herald-Leader

  • LeBron James says Wiggins plays a very mature game:

"He plays with a maturity about him at a level that’s above a lot of high school kids," James said. "If he continues on the path he’s on, he can be really good."

  • SEC dominates the NFL draft:

Of the 254 players drafted over the last three days, 63 of them came from SEC schools. That’s more than double the number of draft picks that any other college conference produced. The ACC was second with 31 picks, while the Pac-12 was third with 28 picks.
    As expected. NBC
