So the new football playoff begins next year, and it's named ... The College Football Playoff.
Tweet of the Morning:
Having said that, BBN is going to have perhaps most enjoyable season of basketball ever in 2013-14. This one could truly be for the ages.

Truly. It is well worth looking forward to.

Bizarre. Cool, but bizarre.

CatsIllustrated.com // Warford set to be first UK lineman picked in 20 years
Kentucky hasn’t had a single offensive lineman picked in the NFL draft in 20 years.
If you’re looking for a reason why Kentucky has been mediocre at its best in the last 20 years, look no further than this.
You have to have a quality line, and a 20-year NFL drought speaks to anything but.

Cox said Horton bought into the new staff at UK and what the Wildcats are trying to build.
“He said, ‘I believe in Coach Stoops’ vision,’” Cox said.
I think that Horton means this. Let’s hope so. (Via Hank)

John Calipari and Tom Izzo back proposed practice changes // ESPN
“I like it,” said Calipari, who added he wouldn’t change his Midnight Madness date of Oct. 18. “What we’re about to undertake has never been done before – to bring in a group like this. They recruited each other. We’ve got a great staff, but they recruited each other. It took the Miami Heat two years to do what they did. We’ve got to do it in three months. We’ll have the summer, but we could have used a foreign trip with this group.”
I like it as well, but in typical Calipari fashion, he goes on and on about how this has “…never been done before.” I think the Michigan Fab Five was close enough to dispute that statement, and they did pretty well.
It’s hardly a surprise that Calipari agrees with more practice time, especially bringing in young guys like this every year.

Cauley-Stein, Poythress have work to do // HOOPSWORLD
“Potential is exactly that,” Cauley-Stein said. “We had the potential this year and didn’t capitalize on it. So it could easily be we have the best recruiting class coming in and not do anything with it. It’s that simple. If you don’t come together and do things right, then you’re just a bunch of talented kids that didn’t get anything accomplished.”
Exactly right. Smart kid.

College football’s new playoff will be called… ‘College Football Playoff’ // CollegeFootballTalk
Nine months after the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee approved a four-team playoff for major college football, the new postseason has officially been given its title:
College Football Playoff.
That’s it. That’s the name to replace the BCS.

Top NCAA hoops prospect endures ugly side of recruiting // ESPN
“That’s just craziness. That’s just America,” said Bob Stone, the father of Diamond Stone. “It gets crazy, man. …. He gets all kinds of crazy stuff. Tweets [like] ‘[Diamond], what’s cocaine like?’ Crazy stuff.”
I think that sums it up. Twitter, in particular, is a special kind of evil that provides people an anonymous platform to attack anyone and anything that annoys them in the least way.
Metcalf thinks that the fact parents “…expect that nonsense” is the problem. He’s wrong. The fact that parents accept it is the problem. All such threats should be reported to law enforcement, particularly threats at their children. Once a few people are successfully prosecuted for threatening over Twitter, the practice will begin to abate as long as the media makes a point of reporting it.

Purdue transfer Sandi Marcius stuck for summer // ESPN
I think Brennan’s right, and so is Purdue. Scholarships are given in return for playing a sport, and if a student announces his intention to leave, it’s hardly incumbent upon Purdue to continue to fund his education when he won’t be playing there.
To me, this isn’t even a close call. Marcius is just between a rock and a hard place. He needs to pony up the cash to finish off school and transfer, or stay there and finish off school. It isn’t as if Purdue is interfering with his transfer, or denying him anything he is due.

SEC teams ready to rumble again at Franklin Field
The Gamecocks will join Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Kentucky in representing the SEC at the Penn Relays, which begin Thursday for the 119th time.
We tend to forget track and field, but the SEC is pretty darn powerful in those sports, too.
