The only TV program I watch regularly is Gold Rush. Bunch of dopes, but I do like seeing the gold. However, this time of year I do watch TV most nights while on the treadmill or after yoga or before bed and I am almost always looking at basketball. I take what the dish has to offer and jump from game to game, sometimes going back and forth between four games I get to look at a lot of different teams.
This does not include UK games. Those go into the calendar at the beginning of the year for planning purposes.
No team stands out to me as a likely winner right now. Based on what I have seen the winner will come from this group of contenders: IU, KU, Florida, UL, Duke, and Miami. If I had to pick one from that group it would be KU.
Pretenders include Butler, The Zags, Michigan, Syracuse, Zona, Ohio State and UCLA.
Of late I have begun to think another team has a chance to become a contender. The coach's teams usually improve rapidly as the Dance approaches and this team has made significant strides in many areas since the beginning of the season. Defense and rebounding have really improved. Shooting is getting better as is spacing. Heck, even free throw shooting is getting better. This team will present serious match up issues for most teams once the spacing gets better. Their weakness remains guard play and team toughness. If the guard play gets better over the next couple weeks this team will join the list of pretenders. If the guard play gets better and the team gets tougher, this team will join the list of the contenders.
You know who I am thinking of. Of course you do. Ladies and gentlemen, the 2013 Wildcats are about to become a contender for the NCAA championship. Growth needs to continue, but if it does this team will be very difficult to beat. The coaching has been a joy to watch.
How about a UK KU finals rematch? It might happen.
