Tonight, Kentucky is in a position to begin an assault on a decent NCAA seed as well as the Florida Gators' current dominance of the SEC. To do that, they will have to defeat a team that scored almost at will against the Wildcats in Rupp Arena.

To win, Kentucky must:

  • Temper their enthusiasm. Since their last loss at Alabama, Kentucky has been more deliberate on offense, and more effective.
  • Defend Elston Turner. Turner had the game of his life against the Wildcats in Rupp Arena, and if he has another big game, Kentucky's chances will be diminished.
  • Rebound well. TAMU is a good offensive rebounding team. In fact, they are the best in the league. If UK wants to defeat them, they must keep them off the glass.
  • Make free throws. Kentucky's efficiency at the line is probably limited by Nerlens Noel, but when guys like Goodwin and Harrow get to the line, they must make them.
  • Keep Noel out of foul trouble. Even with Willie Cauley-Stein technically available, Kentucky does not want to force him into the game.
  • Shake off misses. Kentucky has been prone to hanging their heads when they miss shots.

This game is eminently winnable for Kentucky, and they need to keep their momentum in the worst way. John Calipari needs a focused, intense team for the post season, which gets closer with every game. If Kentucky is to have any chance at all for an impact, it must continue its recent improvement and keep winning.

Go, 'Cats!
