A Remarkable Year

As if Nerlens Noel hadn't already given enough at UK, his injury has revealed what a remarkable year this is turning into for the university and the BBN. It is so not because we are a steam roller on the court this year. That much is evident. What I for one have been missing is the bigger picture. How this team has come along off of the hardwood is the real identity that some of us have been lamenting the lack of. We just didn't see it until the guys carried Nerlens off the court -- at least I didn't.

Yes, we were spoiled last year. This year's team is not last year's team and I for one refused to believe that they wouldn't eventually turn into something like it. After the injury, it became apparent that this bunch is about something different, something in addition to, winning games. And I liked that thought. That surprised me. This team is special in a way that mere national titles cannot express. There is nothing in my mind that they can accomplish in showing who they are that could top how they reacted to Nerlens' injury. When the team took him en masse toward the locker room, it showed that they have all the heart that any team could hope to have. No matter what happens the rest of the season on the court, these guys are now champions in my mind. They have proved themselves to me as a person and as a fan.

And it ain't over yet.
