Kentucky Wildcats Morning Quickies: Texas Longhorns Edition

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. Kentucky defeats Boise St. convincingly. Texas football coach Mack Brown rumored to be retiring/resigning. Florida upsets Kansas. More.

The big news of the day is something many of us have been expecting; the rumored resignation and/or firing of Mack Brown from the Texas Longhorns, and the scramble to come up with a list of putative replacements, where Alabama's Nick Saban undoubtedly tops the list.

Tweet of the Morning:

Your Quickies:

  • Calipari's post-Boise St. press conference:

  • John Clay comments on Willie Cauley-Stein's new "do," and how Kentucky did last night.

  • Was communication really that good last night? I didn't think so, but it was apparently improved over recent efforts.

  • WCS's next step (besides hair maintenance.)

  • Interesting. Sickle-cell anemia can be a big problem. He should probably have that looked into.

  • John Clay runs some of the numbers on Kentucky's win over Boise. The most impressive thing to me was the defensive efficiency of 82.5. That's a good number. OE was a bit disappointing at 105. But the worst thing last night was the 28.5 TO%. That's the worst of the season for the Wildcats.

  • Kentucky makes a statement against Boise St. I'm not sure that's true, but they definitely bounced back from their loss to Baylor, which is very important. If you'll recall last year, even with Noel healthy, Kentucky dropped back-to-back games against an eaiser schedule.

  • SB Nation's piece on Kentucky's victory over Boise St.

    And this:

I'd be very surprised if Saban left Alabama for Texas. It's like Calipari leaving Kentucky for North Carolina or Duke — a pure lateral move.

  • Wescott Eberts brings us up to date on the Mack Brown situation, as well as rumors that Saban will take his place. This is going to be hilarious, folks.

  • Roll 'Bama Roll reacts to the "Saban to Texas" rumors with a yawn.

  • Saban rumor subjected to effective triple-A by SB Nation.

  • Boise St. has a new football coach:

  • EDSBS must mock the Texas Longhorns. And Alabama Crimson Tide.

College basketball
  • Florida beats Kansas. That was a big win for an SEC squad who needed it. Kansas has the same issues Kentucky has with youth, but they are having more trouble dealing with them. I think that highlights the difference between Calipari and Self when it comes to coaching young guys.

  • Updated top 25 and one. 16 is too low for Kentucky after last night, but this Saturday pays for all.

  • Update to the "Mount Rushmore" of freshmen. Randle moves up this week.

  • Sorry, Myron, no sale.
